Expanding our economy, advancing our community.

AMICSTL’s mission is ambitious, but far from impossible. As outlined by St. Louis’ Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (RAMP) and the STL 2030 Jobs Plan, plans have been made. Sponsors have stepped up. Partnerships are being formed. And, construction is underway.

Based on our North Star metrics, AMICSTL is on track to make a lasting and outsized impact on the 15 Missouri and Illinois counties making up the St. Louis region through 2030:

Population Growth

an average 0.7% annual growth will add 180,000 people to the region

GDP Growth

average 2.0% annual growth in the metro’s Gross Domestic Product

Median Household Income

decrease the Black-to-white household income gap by 50% to increase average Black household income by $18,000

Home Ownership Rate

decrease the Black-to-white home ownership gap by 30% while keeping the overall metro home ownership rate above 71%

Our
Partners

AMICSTL is made possible through the tireless work and wisdom of the Build Back Better Coalition (final name TBD), a group of regional leaders who came together in 2015 to compete in—and win—the Build Back Better Regional Challenge.

Our History,
Our Region

Grounded in manufacturing, driven by innovation. Seeking to diversify the region’s defense-heavy manufacturing base, in 2014 the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership formed a public/private coalition of manufacturing stakeholders, service providers, and associated businesses to provide guidance on a path forward. Known as the Regional Advanced Manufacturing Partnership, RAMP recommended action steps toward establishing the region as a hub for advanced manufacturing, planting the seed that would become AMICSTL.

St. Louis was hit hard by the COVID-19 epidemic. The region lost over 166,000 jobs, halting 23 years of employment growth and exacerbating more than a century of racial segregation and systemic disinvestment in communities of color. In 2021, Greater St. Louis released the STL 2030 Jobs Plan, a 10-year roadmap for economic growth, creating more living-wage jobs, and reducing racial disparities throughout the region.

Organized in 2015, the Build Back Better Coalition gathered the research and support to win the Build Back Better Regional Challenge, bringing St. Louis $7 million in federal funding for the construction of an Advanced Manufacturing Innovation Center. And, AMICSTL was born.

Building a foundation for success.

Today, the St. Louis region is one of only a few U.S. metros poised to harness the diverse/disparate opportunities our position presents:

  • The area is home to 8 of Forbes’ largest private companies and 15 Fortune 1000 companies, including 7 in the Fortune 500.

  • Missouri and Illinois rank in top 10 states for best infrastructure.

  • St. Louis regularly ranks as one of the top 10 most affordable cities in the U.S.

  • The region is ranked #20 fastest-growing startup hub in the world

  • The Bi-state region is home to 30 four-year and 10 two-year colleges and universities

In short, St. Louis is a proud, resilient region with the physical, intellectual, and human resources needed to make AMICSTL’s vision a reality.
